Install CrossPoint, the free system for Xteink readers, and the Kevra plugin: your books, Ex libris and what you are reading, and your reading time counted in Kevra. All from this page, with the reader plugged into the computer.
To talk to the reader through the cable the browser needs Web Serial, which today only Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge have on a Mac, Windows or Linux computer. Safari, Firefox, phones and tablets cannot.
Open this same page in Chrome or Edge on your computer: https://joinkevra.com/xteink
It is written on the back of the box. The X4 Pro has a touch screen and front light.
Charge it above half, plug it into the computer with a USB cable and turn it on (it must stay awake, not asleep). Then press the button and, in the window, choose the device that appears (it may say «USB JTAG/serial» or «Espressif»).
Nothing in the list? Wake the reader up, try another cable (many only charge) and plug it straight into the computer, without a hub. Bought outside the official store? It may need unlocking first.
Saves the whole reader memory on your computer, about 16 MB, in a minute. With it you can always put the reader back as it came. It stays on your computer: nothing is uploaded.
On the X3 and the X4 the copy can stop halfway (the cable cannot keep up with such a long read). If it does, skip it and go to step 4: it is safe, because CrossPoint goes into the other memory area, the factory system is not touched, and the switch to start with CrossPoint is written last.
CrossPoint goes into the free memory area and the reader starts with it. The factory system stays in the other area.
You do not need the backup to install. When it finishes the reader restarts by itself; if the screen does not change in a few seconds (it happens on the X3 and X4), unplug the cable, hold the power button for about 10 seconds and turn it on again: it starts with CrossPoint.
On the reader, once it has restarted: File Transfer → USB Drive. A drive appears on the computer. Press the button and choose that drive itself.
This model cannot show its card as a USB drive, so the plugin goes over wifi:
⬇ Download the pluginTo open each book where you were on your phone, also set CrossPoint Sync on the reader (Settings → CrossPoint Sync) with the details from the app: Settings → Other readers, and choose «Smart sync».
Then, inside a book: on the X4 Pro, a long press on Home syncs (this page leaves it set; double tap is still the light, and the reader menu opens by tapping the middle of the page). On the others, open the reader menu and choose «Sync Progress». You can change the Home gestures in Settings → Home Button Gestures.
With the reader connected (step 2), choose the backup you made and the page writes it back whole.
This page does not upload anything from your reader: the backup is saved on your computer, and the only things downloaded are CrossPoint and the plugin.
